What are they? Screencasts are cool ways to use your computer! They are mini-movies that you and students can produce from desktops; great way to help students rehearse, catch up, and/or demonstrate understanding. These are great alternatives for students with talents and with special needs. They can even be a quick way to build digital stories from your desktop (using images, etc.).
Screencasting involves capturing your screen and audio, using a tool like Jing, then exporting your production as a movie, and publishing it to the Web. For example, Jing publishes your work online, so you can link to it, to post to your Wiki, blog, etc.
Teacher Tube is full of examples of screencasts, including tutorials on how to do them.
