Each day, 1 or 2 individuals will add notes that summarize the day. These notes will be taken on the Scribe Notes page for that particular day. Feel free to add pictures, files, and links if deemed necessary.
Scribe(s): Adam Woelfle and Ashley Zengerski
Notes:
We began by going over the schedule for the rest of the week, deadlines for projects and what will need to be turned in and when. Also what items need rubrics turned in with them.
After that we were guided to a wiki going over all the different technologies that Mrs. Huber uses in her classroom most often. There were many different new ideas that we haven't talked about yet, and also a few review sites. Many of her ideas are for the elementary level that she teaches at, but can easily be adapted to higher grade levels. The link to this wiki is in our EDU528 wiki site on day 6.
A review was done on how to add different things onto our wiki page. We also learned how to upload our digital story to youtube if necessary, and then how to embed youtube videos not the wiki.
Tomorrow we will be starting a discussion post on the wiki page, so we took time to show how to start a discussion so we can be prepared for tomorrow's activity.
We explored readability and the tool for it on Microsoft word. This is a tool that can help you determine if text is at the grade level for the students that you are trying to teach. It can also be helpful for checking the text of our digital story, and by checking it for our digital story and taking a screen shot of it we can earn a few extra points.
Time was taken to look over our drafts of our lesson plans to make sure that we are on track. We met with our 6'O Clock partner for this part.
We then watched some videos on smartboards and their uses in the classroom.
We talked about the voice thread next, and ran into some technical difficulties with this section and all had to go one at a time in order to make our comments, some students will finish tomorrow.
We ended the class going over plans for tomorrow and working on our Digital Story.
Ashley's Notes:
Today’s class covered the following:
Congrats to Dan on winning Theme Day with his Super Mario pants!
We covered project due dates and submissions for the week: see Day 6 wiki page.
Jodi shared how integration of technology works within her classroom. (See http://elementary-tech.wetpaint.com/) Many of the tools she uses can be adapted for different age levels. These include: virtual field trips, wiimote/smartboard, wikis, Skype and Google.
To post a video on YouTube, be sure to sign in and click the Upload button found at the top of the screen. After uploading the file, make sure that it is public so our classmates can view it. Digital Stories only need to be uploaded to YouTube if they are not created on a web program.
To add a widget to the wiki (ie video, etc), click on edit, widget, and choose the platform.
To start a discussion on wiki, make sure you are signed in. Then click on the discussion board and + New Post.
To assess the readability of a text, paste the text into Word. Follow the steps here:
Review--> Spelling and Grammar--> Ignore/fix errors-->This dialog box pops up assessing readability
8. We discussed our lesson plan rough drafts with a partner. Final versions are due on Friday.
9. We viewed a video on VoiceThread featuring a toddler using an iPad. For a ticket, we responded to the question: How can we meet the technological needs of the 21st century learner?
10. The most important thing to remember when using smartboards in the classroom: be interactive. We saw videos on YouTube as prime examples.
11. With extra time, we continued working on our digital stories.
