How can the use of technology guide your teaching?","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"55454402","body":"I think the trait of conventions is absolutely necessary when witing, because spelling and grammar are the first thing a teacher notices about a students writing.

\nI think technology can help but also hurt guiding our teaching in the area of writing and conventions. I think it can help because there is so much auto-correcting happening in word documents and text messaging. But, is it really helping our students or just fixing the problem for them. In schools today we see a lot of students talking and writing how they text and type to their friends which I personally think is taking away from their writing skills.","dateCreated":"1342710988","smartDate":"Jul 19, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"RTWilliams","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/RTWilliams","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"55455762","body":"I agree with Rhea on how important conventions are. As a science teacher it is frustrating to see that they are often ignored and put on the back burner when doing science writing.

\nWith all of the shorthand ways that students write on facebook, texting, twitter, etc. we need to make sure we enforce conventions when using technology in the classroom.","dateCreated":"1342716394","smartDate":"Jul 19, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"JRGrabowski","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/JRGrabowski","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"55461896","body":"I really like both of your thoughts on conventions. As Jon said shorthand writing is taking over. Children in schools are doing it more and more. Some teachers are even beginning to accept it as the norm and ignoring writing conventions. This is something that needs to be addressed in schools because it really makes the writing look bad and uneducated. Technology can be a negative factor dealing with conventions which is why you need to still have regular pen and paper writing.","dateCreated":"1342749835","smartDate":"Jul 19, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"nick9278","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/nick9278","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
