Are they analyzing the material and drawing their own conclusions or are they just spitting back information that has already been given to them?  It is also important to see if the students ideas are consistent throughout the assignment. I love it! I could definitely see myself singing it to my students (regardless of their age - I don't mind if my students think I'm a big nerd).
