How can we be sure that they understand the subtle differences between words?","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"55446982","body":"There are a lot of fun concepts that could go along with word choice assessments. I think any type of creative writing would be a great form of practice and assessment for a student, mainly because I don't think that children always have too much of an opportunity to write creatively in school anymore. This could be anything from a short story to a poem. I also think doing something fun like madlibs, where each student can be encouraged to insert their most unique word that fits the description would be engaging.","dateCreated":"1342664356","smartDate":"Jul 18, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"bake2778","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/bake2778","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"55452522","body":"You could asses the students by having them write describing words that they hear during a story. They could them discuss these words with you so they understand the meaning and other ways the word could be used. You could also give the students a silly paragraph and highlight words that they need to replace with one of their own words. This allows students to have fun with writing and reading while learning about appropriate word choice.
\nTo make sure that they understand the differences between words, you could give them choices of words that are similar to include in sentences from the idea above. You could have the students discuss their specific word choice when they are done and why that words makes the most sense to them.","dateCreated":"1342703952","smartDate":"Jul 19, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"finc2073","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/finc2073","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"55414908","dateCreated":"1342475425","smartDate":"Jul 16, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"brus9056","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/brus9056","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/edu528.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/55414908"},"dateDigested":1532174272,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"Hey Everybody","description":"Is it just you and me Dawn for this?
